Fire protection in the country of asylum accommodation and HVB homes for unaccompanied children have many shortcomings, according to a review by the Swedish Radio made. Many of the deficiencies was judged to be so severe that they needed to be corrected immediately.
The shortcomings have included everything from disconnected alarms to doors that will not open, one thing that can have devastating consequences, according to Andreas Melin, who is the fire chief in Jönköping.
– The this is about people who may not recognize the room the first night, and then it’s about being able to lead the people right path. Can we not open the door as the sign refers to it is a serious shortage, he said.
When P4 Jönköping examined the rescue supervisory reports out on asylum accommodation and HVB homes in the county show it appears that the 17 controlled places, it’s only three who have not received a single complaint on fire protection. At the other Lodging has a total of 53 complaints made, 31 of the notes, more than half, was deemed so serious that they needed to be corrected immediately or within a certain time.
The shortcomings These included the evacuation plans that do not sued, fire extinguishers were missing, escape routes were blocked and the doors could not be opened. In several places in the county had disconnected the alarm and smoke detectors been covered over by those who live there because they could smoke without alarm went off. It has also been involved in the Centria Hospitality in Jönköping where about 100 asylum seekers live, says John Alvarsson from the Migration Board’s team leader there.
– There has been in our accommodations, too, and then it is important that we , with an interpreter, trying to make them understand that they are there for them, he said.
on asylum Lodging and HVB homes in the 75 municipalities in the country, as Swedish Radio examined, it turns out that more than half received complaints about serious deficiencies in fire protection.
Many of Lodging has received complaints on the same kinds of shortcomings, which uppkilade fire doors and evacuation plans that do not match. But Andreas Melin on emergency services in Jonkoping do not think the fire protection of refugee accommodation could be worse than other businesses just because they were fixed faster.
– When it goes fast can possibly business organization and control system hang after, but it I think they bring. Real estate and construction issues have been investigated before starting to move in, said Andreas Melin.
