The plan to transform the small village Sörnoret outside Åsele a radiation-free zone has become an infected subject. Åsele is now investigating a ban on cell towers within a mile radius.
– There will be a refuge for those who are sensitive to radiation. The radiation kills their body, says Åseles councilor Brage Sundberg (Åsele Party) to SVT Vasterbotten.
But a clear majority of the 14 people who live in Sörnoret is very negative to the plans. Twelve of them have signed a petition and submitted to the municipality. They believe that mobile coverage today is lousy.
– We can not use smoke signals to reach the outside world. We are older everyone, and we will have a security alarm, says Helen Persson, one of the villagers, to SVT.
