The government crackdown on car fires – would strengthen penalties – Aftonbladet

For the ninth night in a row have been burned cars in Malmo.

Now the government wants to take a vigorous and strengthen penalties. Among other things, proposed that young people who commit serious crimes can be monitored.

– This means that you can be monitored by an ankle bracelet, says Minister for Justice and Minister for Migration and Morgan Johansson.

the cars have been burned in Malmö for the ninth day in a row.

This means that so far, during the summer months, burned 110 cars just in Malmo. Now to put the government investigation quickly to make it easier to trap offenders.

– What is absolutely clear is that we need to get a quicker prosecution in some cases, says Justice and Migration Morgan Johansson at a press conference Rosenbad.

to strengthen penalties

the government now wants to review the conditions to convict those who are burning cars. It may be necessary to establish special emergency courts that can deal with these issues and introduce new opportunities to manage the process remotely.

– You must be able to make the negotiations in all parts of the country, therefore, we will now focus on emergency courts. It is important that it is quicker and therefore we lift this question, says Morgan Johansson.

The government would also strengthen penalties for serious damage, increasing the police presence and work harder with crime prevention.

– Young sheep today either fines or imprisonment if they are convicted of crimes. It is now proposing a more restrictive sanction for those convicted of more serious crimes. It is called juvenile monitoring and means that at certain times may stay at home and be monitored using electronic tagging.

– For the individual, it is equally bad to get his car uppeldad like getting their car stolen.

Over 2000 cars burned

the government also wants to make it easier to put up surveillance cameras in some areas “where the problems are greatest”.

According to statistics from the National Crime Prevention Council, the National Council, a total of 2027 cars burned between January and July this year. It is unclear whether there are more or fewer than in previous years because there are statistics stretches further back in time.

– If we look at the car fires are they too high, but there is no dramatic change over time. But it is a trend we have to break, says Interior Minister Anders Ygeman.

What do you think is the reason that car fires flaring up again?

– I think there are several different causes. There are social problems, insurance fraud, it may be about to conceal another crime, says Anders Ygeman.

Alliance parties would add about 2,000 new police officers, will it be so?

– I do not want to participate in this police auction. For me it is important that the police officers are is where they do the most good.

“I’ll be darned”

Morgan Johansson said that car fires are a very serious crime that can not be sorry.

– I’ll be darned these thugs as these are, running around and destroying the property of others. They also destroy themselves. When you get them, they risk heavy fines and possibly even jail sentence, he says.

What would date the courts have the power?

– The idea is that pretty quickly just around the crime should be able to judge, perhaps only for a few days.

What would you say to those who live in vulnerable areas and are worried?

– The first is that the police and judiciary are doing all they can to find the perpetrators. The other is that they have seen something, or has information about who may be involved they must communicate this to the police. No benefit this may continue day after day.

The night of Wednesday, four cars burned in Malmö and another in Lund. Even the police have not been able to arrest any suspects.

But it is not only in Malmö that cars have been burned. During the night of Wednesday burned about 20 cars in a carport extend in Norrköping and three cars were damaged in a fire in Linkoping. The night before burned two cars in the Stockholm suburb of Husby and seven in Haninge.
