After 34 years in prison – now Leif Axmyr free – Aftonbladet

HALMSTAD . He has been locked up for 34 years – longer than any other lifetime convicted in Sweden.

Some argue that the punishment was extra hard because one of his murder victims was the stepson of a top politician.

In the morning was double murderer Leif Axmyr, 77, a free man.

– He seemed happy and collected, says Christer Renlid the compound crisis.

A car from the association Crisis, Criminals Return into society, drove in the morning through the gates of the prison in Halmstad.

Fifteen minutes later came the double murderer Leif Axmyr out, got into the car and left the prison.

– He seemed happy and composed after all. He seemed to feel hopefulness, says Christer Renlid, who is a writer for Kris.

The first Leif Axmyr did was to go to Kris premises in Halmstad where he ate cake and drank coffee as a free man after 34 years in prison.

34 years.

It is so long since Princess Madeleine was born, and the Falklands War started. Just as long Leif Axmyr, convicted of the double murder of top politicians stepson and his former girlfriend, had been in prison.

It was 1982. No other life-sentenced prisoner has been locked up for so long in Sweden.

Murdered two with a crowbar and a knife

Leif Axmyr, today 77 years, had already been in and out of prison since the late 50s. He was released after serving a long prison sentence for various crimes of violence.

But during a leave in Gavle, just before he was released in May, 1982, he murdered his former girlfriend and a male friend to her . He killed them with a knife and crowbar.

Axmyr did not know then that the young man was the stepson of the politician Allan Larsson, later, Swedish Finance Minister.

After the murders he lit fire to the apartment and fled therefrom. He got life for double murder.

During the long time in prison, Leif Axmyr repeatedly convicted of new crimes, including assault in 1996, aggravated criminal damage and drug offenses in 1998, and bribery in 2007.

Although the recent past, 77-year-old repeatedly reported to have misbehaved in prison, including suspected he was beating a fellow prisoner.

Over the years, Axmyr applied to fixed-penalty . But it was rejected again and again – the government refused to pardon the double murderer.

“Hate prisons”

As the years went by. In an interview with Aftonbladet in 2003 said Leif Axmyr he thought it exceptionally long penalty depended on who he killed.

– Of course it is important that I murdered a ministerson, he said in the interview.

– For Allan Larsson, I would say: Forgive me, Allan! I was crazy and freaked out. I am ashamed of what I did. But I’ve paid my price, expensive. Now I am old and I do not want to die here. I want to die out there in freedom. I do not like prisons – I hate them.

He had been locked up for 21 years. Ten years later, in June 2013, converted Örebro District Court sentence to imprisonment for 51 years. If there are exceptional reasons, inmates in Swedish prisons released after serving two thirds of their sentence.

“I was impossible”

Now, the time has passed. His last years in prison Leif Axmyr served at one facility in Halmstad.

– I represent that I murdered those people. I have never whined over the penalty. What I object to is the treatment of me. Probation has been trying to break me from day one, says Leif Axmyr in a recent interview with The Way Out, Crisis own newspaper.

– I got my first guarded leave after 20 years. If you sit locked up for life and not be punished timed and management of the various institutes do just about anything to hinder – you become a hard bastard about it at all survive.

Axmyr says he has changed over time in prison.

I’m not the same person today as when I started my criminal court. Before I was impossible and teasing continued. It has been one of the reasons that I got påbackning of my punishment all the time.

The magazine’s reporter Christer Renlid asks if he is psychopath.

No, I’m not a psychopath. It’s just an old myth that lingers from the time I was very messy, says Leif Axmyr in the interview.

“Gotta have peace and quiet”

During the first period of freedom, he to stay at one of the association’s crisis accommodation.

– he must have peace and quiet, he is almost 78 years, says Per Uno Fransson, who has been Axmyrs friend since the ’70s, active in crisis.

Fransson spoke with Axmyr as late as a week, but would not say how his friend feel or see their future freedom.

– I do not want to go into that right now when he does not are with, says Per Uno Fransson, who is also Axmyrs supervisors.

– But he’ll muck after 34 years, well you understand the self. Double killer received a letter from the Prime Minister He was promised a new home the Palme
