It was too a week ago as a lighthearted Hagglund announced his resignation and told me that now he can devote himself to read novels instead of its directives. When asked how the party friends reacted to the resignation announcement, he replied jokingly: “It was met with great joy.”
– I have thought this through very carefully. I think I create a good situation for an upcoming party leaders who now have time to make himself known to the Swedish people and put their stamp on the party, said Göran Hägglund to SvD associated with the message.
On Friday told Chairman of the Christian Democrat nomination committee, Chatrine Pålsson Ahlgren, if the process to appoint a new leader.
– We give the party leadership a very unique opportunity for consultation and discussion. We can make it even more substantiated if we include more kristdemokraer than we constituting the Nomination Committee. We want to make it as democratic and transparent as humanly possible, she said at the press conference.
The district and local departments should get nominated in the first place until February 25th. Then three participants from each district gather for meetings, some 70 people, who will meet the main candidates and ask questions.
Then they to decide whom to nominate as party leaders and the Nomination Committee shall receive a submission to the extraordinary national convention.
– Our mission is to add such a good proposals as possible, says Chatrine Pålsson Ahlgren.
Transparency requirements have been big. Among other things, the party’s youth organization (KDU) and several districts have been critical to hurry and wanted to see an open process, often with multiple candidates. KDU has also called for a national electronic ballot before the election.
Several names have figured in speculation about who might take over the party leadership after Göran Hägglund. Lars Adaktusson, Ebba Busch Thor and Acko Ankarberg Johansson appears to be the hottest candidates, according to a round neckline that SvD did after the announcement of the departure.
But other names mentioned are the former housing minister Stefan Attefall, David Lega is Mayor of Gothenburg, the party’s housing policy spokesperson Caroline Szyber, the team leader Emma Henriksson and the party’s economic policy spokesperson James Forssmed.
The additional national convention, where Hagglunds successor shall be elected, will be held April 25th.
