Two divers in Trelleborg have found the long-sought bombers B17G – an American plane that crashed in the ocean off the Trelleborg in 1944. Divers have searched for the plane a long time, but without any accurate position to go after, reports Trelleborg Allehanda online.
– Even though it was Friday the 13th we were lucky. The terrain at the site is hilly with lots of stone and you have to pick up the stuff to see what it is. But it was clear vision and we tried in the right place, says the diver Johan Öhlén to the newspaper.
After receiving a tip about a fisherman who got metal in the nets near the site where the plane must have crashed they stack out and dived. And found both propeller blades and motors.
At present only know three divers to the exact spot – before publishing it to the dive more and try to find more parts. Documentation is also important, says one of the divers told the newspaper.
