WWF still think it looks brighter for the stock of shrimp, but believes that the continued poor control when it comes to dumping of småräkor and weaknesses in the management of responsible authorities allows the shrimp retains its red light.
– In order to stop the dumping of småräkor required tighter control and management. Only then can the certification of the West Coast of shrimp to really take off. Many of us look forward to being able to enjoy sustainably fished fresh shrimp, says Håkan Wirtén, Secretary General of WWF in a press release.
WWF red light is a recommendation to consumers not to buy deepwater shrimp instead buy eco-labeled shrimp.
In contrast, for the first time eco-labeled tropical shrimp green light. This certification means fewer antibiotics, chemicals and kraav the efficient purification system. Consideration must be given to wild species and habitats and the consultation of the village community and local populations.
