It proposes three astronomers at Uppsala University in a forthcoming paper in the journal Astronomical Journal, writes Uppsala Nya Tidning.
– According to all known astrophysical laws can not Milky Way stars just suddenly disappear without leaving any traces itself. If it can be shown that this does indeed happen, it opens either to the development of entirely new physics or to any technically far more advanced civilization than our own is behind the disappearance. Both possibilities are exciting, says Beatriz Villaroel, a doctoral student at the Department of Astronomy and Physics, told the newspaper.
In the paper reported students are the result of a “pet project” where you have examined images of the sky and found the suspected missing stars . All but one case, however, has been written off as a false alarm, and the remaining are highly uncertain.
Villaroel describes the response of senior research colleagues as “very good”. Should a missing star is found, it could be a starting point to search for extraterrestrial life in the same area, she explains for Upsala Nya Tidning.
