A quarter reached the state’s homework – Aftonbladet

Education. the government’s focus on homework is distributed unevenly. Only one in four students reached the state Wiki contribution, according to a review by SVT News has done.

– It’s a shame about students, says Sara Svanlund, second vice president of the National Union of Teachers, said.

This year, 281 million granted in homework contributions, compared with 23 million last year. But SVT’s examination shows that there is a big difference in how the money is divided between the municipalities.

Linköping and Kalmar Municipality has applied for and received funding for all students. Stockholm municipality has however only applied for every tenth student. The Agency grants SEK 1 000 for each student who offered help with homework, in the Stockholm case, it means that the municipality gets six million instead of the potential 60 million.

unfair system

Sara Svanlund consider that the system is improperly designed and warn that it could increase the differences between the country’s schools.

– In a contribution system where it is up to the principals to decide if they want to search or not the students who somehow are not treated fairly in the end, she says.

75 municipalities have not applied for any grant at all and several municipalities have chosen to apply a very small contribution. In principle, all schools that have applied for the grant has received the money.

Money freezing inside

Education Minister Gustav Fridolin is critical to the municipalities refrained from seeking money and that does not offer homework help .

– it may not be that you have students who really need help with homework but do not get it, while we have money in the government’s accounts that freezes inside, he tells Swedish Television News.

the focus on homework assistance was made around the same time as the RUT deduction for homework abolished. The idea is that the homework now to reach those students with the greatest need of help.

Since there is money left to allocate for 2016 the agency has extended the deadline to 31 August.
