The entire 37 percent of the pine stands in eastern Blekinge grazing damage by moose. There is an increase of ten percent compared to two years ago, according to a recent survey, reported Swedish Radio Blekinge.
The damage may indicate that pine is about to disappear from the area.
– It would be bad and would have major economic consequences, says Stig Hermansson at the National Board of Forestry in Hässleholm to SR.
He says that grazing damage lowers the value of the pines and the information needs to reverse development.
also, other species have decreased in the area, including mountain ash, aspen, willow and oak.
