Teacher student prosecuted for terrorist offenses – Göteborgs-Posten

A former teacher student accused of conspiring to commit terrorist offenses. The man is in his 20s and was under suspicion manufacture a suicide bombing – to become a martyr. Relatives of the man tells of hearing that the man “expressed strong willingness to die in the name of God”.

On Thursday indicted a man in his 20s in preparation for terrorist offenses. The man is, according to several media, a former teacher student.
According to suspicions the man would travel to Syria to join the IS and then manufacture a suicide.
In January, the man should have tried to buy items with the intent to manufacture a bomb.
– he suspected that he supplies, kept, transported and compiled objects that are particularly likely to be used as a means to cause an explosion or detonation with the intention of becoming a martyr, says prosecutor Ewamari Häggkvist at the National unit for safety.

In the indictment, it appears that he purchased six bottles of acetone, three large boxes of matches, three packs round balls of steel, a pressure cooker, a Christmas tree lights with batteries , duct tape and a mobile phone of the older model. According to the indictment, this is stuff that used to make the kind of homemade bomb used in the example, the Boston Marathon in 2013.
– There is still some ingredient for him to complete this.
How much damage he had have caused?
– I can not really answer that. I have stated that he had made a bomb with the whole thing … It depends, there will be speculation about what he had put into this. But I have said that the purpose of the explosion, the detonation was to deprive others of life, or to inflict serious injury or cause danger to others.

The prosecutor wrote in the indictment that the purpose of the act was to “seriously intimidate a population or a population group and to seriously destabilize or destroy the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures in Sweden “.

the man tried in June is to travel to Turkey, but was stopped – twice.
– At the first moment we do not know why he was not allowed to enter. Or he came in, but was taken by the police and later sent back. We really do not know why he was sent back but it may simply be that they took him as a suspicious person who would join the IS, says Ewamari Häggkvist and continues.
– In the second case, a few days later, he went to Istanbul and then it was sure that he was rejected for the Security Service had sent out that he was a potential person to join iS. Then he turned away at the airport.

How did you become aware of the man?
– With that he went away without informing their families so made a police report on the missing person. There, it appeared that it was suspected that he would go and join the IS. This was communicated to the Security Police, said Ewamari Häggkvist and continues.
– There are families who have suspected that he would join the IS.
Could he have had an accomplice?
– We have not found any other. But when it comes to the trip to Turkey so we do not know quite easily.
The prosecutor believes that she has strong evidence against the man.
– First, it objects. But strong evidence, I also mean is such as found in his cell phone, or recreated from documents that have been erased and the things that he has searched for. Where there is such manuals on how to build homemade bombs, there are a lot of explosives. There are Daesh-, IS-magazine, says Ewamari Häggkvist.

In the interrogation, the suspect’s father said that his son said he “wanted to kill himself and go to paradise.” He should also have said that “he wanted to blow himself and those who are against Daesh”. Although the suspect’s mother says in interviews that her son “expressed strong willingness to die in the name of God”.

The indictment was submitted to the Attunga District Court and the investigation has been conducted by national drive for safety.
In the indictment the prosecutor writes that the document could have harmed Sweden.
– There is a requirement for it to be a terrorist to Sweden would be damaged. Typically, it is so that if you detonate a bomb or suicide so damaged the open society that we have in Sweden, says Ewamari Häggkvist.
Man deny the charges.
– He says that he would only on holiday in Turkey. But my understanding is that he was about to join IS.
