The Government’s White Paper on abuses against Roma should be used as a textbook in school. It is one of the proposals in the report, the Commission against antiziganism presents today, reports Swedish Radio.
The Commission, which was appointed by former Minister for Integration Erik Ullenhag (FP) must be for two years gathering knowledge about racism against Roma , inform and propose measures. Concretely, it is about combating prejudice among the police and other authorities and assist Roma to react to the discrimination they face in everyday life.
One problem, according to Commission Chairman Thomas Hammarberg, is that Roma who face discrimination are not have somewhere to turn to with their complaints.
– The register Skåne police established was a staggering blow to confidence in the authorities among the Roma, he says to SVT.
The Commission therefore proposes the establishment of a national institution with responsibility for matters relating antiziganism and Roma rights.
