Prosecutors want to seize domain names – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The case comes piratebay.se and thepiratebay.se. The prosecutor Frederick Ingblad has requested that the domain names will no longer be used. But according to DN can more sites affected.

– A domain name is an aid for a site. Used the site for criminal activities such domain name is a crime aids, says Ingblad to the newspaper.

Earlier requirement to forfeit domain name has been directed to the individual owner. This time it is directed against the requirement Punkt SE, responsible for the entire register of see-domains. The Prosecutor court with him, the Foundation shall be prohibited to let anyone register domain names or alternatively submit them to government ownership.

– The best part is that the state takes over the domain, says Ingblad DN.

In Paragraph SE’s eyes the issue is very controversial. CEO Danny Aerts has called the requirement inefficient and disproportionate. He likened it to remove street signs to all properties where ever committed crimes.

– We see ourselves as an important part of the internet, as a registrar. But we are not content to do, says Elisabeth Ekstrand, General Counsel of Punkt SE DN.
