Organizers of the festivals need to ensure that young girls feel safe there, believe Interior Minister Anders Ygeman (S). He thinks it is positive that more people now dare to report and that sexual assault is seen as a police task.
Minister Anders Ygeman (S) think the festival organizers have to take greater responsibility for women’s safety.
– groping and molestation has occurred for a long time, but it has been swept under the carpet and it has not managed to take the debate, says Anders Ygeman in a TT interview in Visby.
He believes that society has taken too lightly on the young girls molested.
– There must be well say because we have got these high-profile events, said Ygeman.
An eye on the alcohol
in summer, many reports of sexual assault and rape come at music festivals. The responsibility rests primarily with the organizers, believes Ygeman.
– Above all, it is they who arrange music festival that must ensure that there is orderly and safe conditions. In this way, it is no different from a football game or an Almedalen week, he said.
The organizers must also keep track of their alcohol sales and ensure that it lives up to the law.
Later during the day, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven present a package of measures to improve conditions in the exclusion areas. But Anders Ygeman do not want to reveal what measures will be presented in his district, that is police work and increased security. Generally, however, security and order improved. It is “a small clique that plague,” according Ygeman.
More police
Alliance parties require more police, which also Ygeman want to see. But here and now it’s more about changing police practices, see how police resources are used.
– I think that crunching the numbers that some parties engaged in is unattractive, says Ygeman adding that it takes time to get out many new police officers.
Various surveys show that Anders Ygeman is the government’s most popular minister. He tries himself in a statement that it looks like.
– Swedes like politicians who speak slowly and eat porridge. I apply to both, says Anders Ygeman.
– And I think it is easier to say what I think.
But he does not aim to become prime minister, he assures.
– no, there is absolutely nothing I strive for.
