The EU wants to promote strangled teat – Aftonbladet

the EU. A new rescue package for EU dairy farmers are on the way.

But the Swedish government does not like plans for with EU money to pay farmers for milk less.

– It would be very strange if the countries have increased production much would be paid to go back, says rural Affairs Sven-Erik Bucht (S) who stay at home and send his Secretary of State Elisabeth Backteman to Monday’s ministerial meeting in Brussels.

– We support voluntary restrictions but not to use money from the EU budget to it. This money will not go to pay those increased production, says Bucht.

The European and thus also the Swedish farmers receive for some years badly paid for their milk. Many knee because of financial problems.

Russian boycotts

the demand has dropped because of Russian motbojkotter of European food, in response to the EU sanctions against Russia for annexation of Crimea. Demand from China has decreased, and the European milk quotas have been removed. The latter has meant that several countries have increased production, with falling prices as a result.

On Farmers’ National Federation (LRF) is one doubts that the European Commission takes the Union budget to help to throttle production, it now becomes the proposal.

– And the Swedish milk production has dropped, it is not we who must reduce it. We want our Swedish dairy farmers left, says Helena Jonsson, Chairman of LRF.

Helping dairy business

She expects that the European Commission will offer suggestions for bringing down production but how they look teaches appear only at the meeting. Some countries would like to have the green light to increase their national support to the dairy sector. It would be fundamentally at odds with the common policy, but if the EU Commission opens for it can not be the Swedish government just say no, she says. Then the competitive situation for Swedish farmers deteriorate.

Countryside Minister says the government hard intend to pursue the payment to get paid earlier than otherwise, which could help dairy entrepreneurs who are short of money at checkout.

Helena Jonsson is in favor of it.

– But it does not any new money, she says.

According to Sven-Erik Bucht, there is no new money set aside in the budget to support dairy farmers.
