AFTONBLADET REVEALS: So long as delayed call-out when the man died – Aftonbladet

Rescue and ambulance could not arrive at an apartment fire in Uppsala – as some threw stones and set fire to cars. A man died in the fire.

Now Aftonbladet reveal that the effort was delayed 13-15 minutes because of the unrest.

– You can not know if it had saved the man’s life. But time is important in these cases and there is a considerable delay, says Anders Ahlström, fire chief in Uppsala.

Police have reinforced their presence in the districts Gottsunda and Valsätra in Uppsala after the last nights’ events. Riot police with helmets and shields patrolling the streets after dozens of cars stuck in the fire, public safety personnel met by stone-throwing and Molotov cocktail was thrown at a bus.

No person has come to harm. But during the night of Saturday, a man died in an apartment fire at an address in Valsätra. The fire, according to police no connection to the other troubles the police, but because of stone-throwing and other call-delayed effort.

The police must secure area

Now Aftonbladet reveal that the operation was delayed by 13 -15 minutes because of the unrest.

After talks with the Uppsala fire chief Anders Ahlström during the day gone to the bottom of the operation, we can present the events minute by minute:

the time 01:57 : the alarm comes in to 112 from the apartment-house. The caller speaks of “the smell of smoke in the stairwell.”

02.00 SOS Alarm sends, after talking with the caller, further alarm to the emergency services.

It is after this delay occurs. The fire department is aware of the unrest in the area and do not go directly to the address. Instead, the contact with the police to ensure that receive protection under the call-out.

At 02:08: The fire department has a note that the patrols are on the way forward with a police escort. The last 400 meters to the house got fire engines supported by fotpatrullerande police officers with shields.

At 02:20: Fire Brigade have arrived at the address.

– We can see the seconds after changing the status of a button from the fire engine, said Anders Ahlström.

took more than twice the time

Normally it would have taken 5-7 minutes the fire department to arrive the apartment house, according to Anders Ahlström. Now it took then 20 minutes (counting from 2:00 when the alarm operator alerted the matter to the fire department).

This provides a delay of 13-15 minutes.

– You can not say about it had saved the man’s life. But time is important in these cases and there is a considerable delay, that’s it.

When the fire department arrived, it took six minutes to locate the apartment where the fire. According to the fire department notes broke the door to the apartment up at 2:26.

– It was hard to find it, but finally did it, says Anders Ahlström.

The fire in the apartment was already on slowing in intensity. The man was found at 02:35 according to the fire department notes.

– But it’s a bit unclear if it is the exact timing. The patrols in place are working the first, then they report in to the station when they have time, says Anders Ahlström.

The man was taken to University Hospital in Uppsala but his life could not be saved.

Anders Ahlström can not yet see that someone in the rescue chain made the wrong decisions.

– the alarm comes in as “the smell of smoke in the stairwell,” not as “apartment fire”. Then we had acted differently. One should also be aware that there had been unrest in the area for four hours with fires and throwing stones.

Elderly man with walker

Jawad Kerim, 33, lives in the same stairway as the dead man, and he was lying in bed when his wife felt the smell of smoke.

– I checked into our apartment first, and found nothing there so I’m out on the balcony and talked with the neighbor. Then I went out into the stairwell and it smelled much, and when I knocked on the door to a lot of neighbors, even his door. He could not go, he had a walker with them all the time, says Jawad Kerim.

When the smell was so intense in the stairwell rang the neighbor 112th

– fire brigade did not come directly because of these idiots that burn things, says Jawad Kerim.

He estimated that it took between 20 and 30 minutes before the fire brigade arrived – which is consistent with the fire brigade time logs.
