1013 people have so far died of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.
Now, an American pharmaceutical company sent an untested serum to try and stem the trend.
At the same time calling for the World Health Organization guidelines for the use of untested drugs against the virus.
Ebola epidemic continues to reap life in West Africa. According to WHO, 1013 people died from the dreaded blödarfebern. But perhaps a first cure may be on the way. The American pharmaceutical company Folder Pharmaceuticals has sent all their doses of the drug Zmapp to Liberia. Zmapp has not been tested on humans yet, however it has been found in studies in monkeys seen that survival increased slightly.
Requires that West Africa has access
The availability of Zmapp is limited and previously have only two American health care workers received treatment. The two Americans living admittedly yet, but doctors do not know if it is due to the medication or if it’s just pure luck.
On several occasions there have been calls that also affected in West Africa should benefit from the new drug.
– Is it ethical to use unregistered medicines to treat people, and if so, what criteria should they meet, in what circumstances and what should be treated? said WHO Assistant Director-General Marie-Paule Kieny ahead of a meeting in Geneva on Monday.
