Insurers have been unusually busy, following the heavy thunderstorm last weekend. Thousands of homes and businesses were affected by flooding. A company that was hit is Lundqvist & Lindqvist Conference in central Stockholm, where Christian Giertta is president.
– Here it was added as a cassette flooring, a very exclusive method, with solid planks, but unfortunately they have grown and been destroyed by the flooding Sunday. It rained 28 millimeters in 40 minutes. It was extreme amounts, says Christian Giertta, president of Lundqvist & Lindqvist Conference.
The company is based in Kreuger’s match palace and had good insurance, but it is just one of thousands of houses that were flooded this weekend.
Just Codan has received 1500 notifications the past week, said insurance expert Håkan Franzén at Trygg-Hansa.
– With us, it has been labeled quite firmly. This kind of insurance claim can cost anywhere from $ 50,000 up to half a million, so we’ll see how big the damage is, says Håkan Franzén.
Trygg-Hansa is the company that received the highest number of notifications, mainly in Stockholm, where the storm was very heavy, even some from Norrbotten coast. Folksam has received notifications from Stockholm, Östergötland and northern Skåne. Even If and Länsförsäkringar has been busy.
The most common is water damage, such as by Lundqvist & Lindqvist where water damage yet discovered quickly.
The rain gave the greatest damage , but other types of damage were consumer electronics that were destroyed and fires that occurred after a lightning strike. And it sure was a hard storm, but once a year usually go something like this many entries, according to the companies estimate. However, we can expect more of these storms in the future.
– We Come in central Sweden to have a Mediterranean climate what it suffers. It increases the risk of torrential rain. This is a question that insurance companies are looking at now, how to deal with the increased rainfall, says Håkan Franzén, insurance expert at Trygg-Hansa.
Håkan Franzén does not exclude that premiums are going up in pace with warmer climates. But he also hopes that local authorities meet their responsibilities and dimensions wells for stormwater allowing water to flow away.
