The world's oldest eel is dead – Swedish Dagbladet

– Do not you feel sad, I remember it from when I was little. And now it’s gone, says Tomas Kjellman newspaper.

The eel should have been thrown into the well in 1859 by the then eight-year-old Samuel Nilsson and has since appeared in both Fritjof Nilsson Piratens novel Bombi Bitt as in newspapers and television .

– It is a breathtaking feeling, that it has been there so long. There has been living in two world wars, says Kjellman.

Now eel frozen down awaiting transport to the Freshwater Laboratory in Stockholm where it will be autopsied to hopefully provide the answers to exactly how old it was.
