Viking Line ferry broke loose in the thunderstorm – Expressen

Viking Line ferry Mariella tore the thunderstorm and drove the fairway at Stadsgårdskajen.

Then a Vaxholmsbåt to the rescue.

– We were on our way out when the captain announced that there was a boat “who are in trouble,” says passenger Isaac Engqvist.

Now, can the incident be the subject of an accident investigation.

Janne Sjöstedt stood at his window and witnessed when Viking Line’s Mariella ran out into the fairway with the visor up.

– Suddenly there appeared a Vaxholmsbåt that lay inside and tried gouge Marinella from the dock, he says.

After a while came a tug on the outside who pushed the vessel towards the port for that it would not run out.

No damaged

Mariella got help towed in to a cruise ship next door, before she could again go under their own steam.

Viking line is estimated that there were about 200 people on board including the crew during the incident. No person was in the walkway that was disconnected when the ship began to drift and no person was reported injured.

– There were some passengers on board but no one was in the gangway luckily, says Helena Kneck, information officer at Viking line.

The ramp to the ship was closed but the visor was open, she says and says that it means that there was no risk of the water would come into the ship, or to any vehicle in danger of being damaged.
