Ygeman defending the border: ”Fill their purposes” – Sydsvenskan

Sweden

the Border is unclear and the basis for extending them is bad, consider the national audit office in a new review. But interior minister Anders Ygeman turn away the criticism. "The controls live up to the requirements and fulfil their objectives", he says.

Last week, the government decided to extend the border in three months. But now consider the national audit office that there is a bad basis for the decision. According to the audit, not the government sufficient information to assess whether controls are still needed.

at the same time, the national audit office that the checks are in large been too imprecise. The threat against security and public order was too vague when the controls were introduced and the decision was too vague in its design.

the national audit office also considers that the government ceded the issue to the police, completely without guidance, with the result that asylum seekers may have been treated wrong by the border police.

Anders Ygeman (S) do not agree that the threat last fall was unclear. He argues on the contrary that the government had a clear picture of the situation.

– Despite a long series of steps, we reached a limit for the critical features where there was a threat to order and security. It was the assessment that came in from the Swedish civil contingencies Agency and from the Swedish migration board, says Ygeman to TT.

He thinks also that the national audit office are wrong, if that border controls would be unclear. Ygeman believe that the government was right when it left it to the police to determine how the controls would be imposed and that the information is sufficient to extend them.

– the Control need to change based on the reality of the situation. Had we done that the national audit office wanted, there would have been more expensive and risked to become worse. In addition, we are required to weekly report to the EU commission, which shares our view that the controls live up to the requirements, and fulfil their purposes, ” he says.

However, Anders Ygeman, in part, with that readiness and training within the police could have been better.

– this is the must see in the light of that, this was the first time that the government took a decision on the border in 20 years. Then you can’t request that all staff should be fully trained at the time one makes the decision.

TT: But how long will we have the controls?

– It is time to start scaling down the controls, but it must be done in such a way that we are never going back to a situation that we were in the past. We will compensate with other measures, but I don’t want to speculate what right now.

the Facts: the Border

The internal temporary border controls were introduced on 12 november last year, as a result of the fact that many asylum seekers came to Sweden and is available today at the Oresund bridge and the ports of Trelleborg, Malmö, Helsingborg and Gothenburg. 400 000 people a week are assessed pass the relevant crossing points, of which 40-95 percent to be checked.
