Ygeman want to judge vapenbrottslingar the same day – financial times

Interior minister Anders Ygeman (S) want people who are arrested with weapons on themselves to be able to be prosecuted immediately.

– There are no complex cases. If you have a weapon on you. When the investigation is finished. You can’t really be judged on the day, but we do not do in Sweden today, ” he says in SVT:s Agenda.

Anders Ygeman want society to be able to hit faster and harder against people who carry weapons.

In the Agenda, he says that people who are arrested with weapons, often released the same day without being detained. Anders Ygeman compare with Denmark, where the legislation is harder. He wants that the person shall be prosecuted and punished almost immediately.

“It’s unreasonable to the one who is apprehended with a loaded weapon on the town then released,” says the minister of the interior and continues:

– There are no complex cases. If you have a weapon on you. When the investigation is finished. You can’t really be judged on the day, but we do not do in Sweden today.

Anders Ygeman explains that the government will put forward proposals for faster prosecution and jourdomstolar during this term of office.

One possibility is to change the häktningslagstiftningen, so that vapenbrott automatically imply pre-trial detention. The goal is that the offenders shall be sentenced within a week.

” There is no servant in waiting, neither the suspect or the possible victim. Within this term of office, I hope that we have a faster prosecution on the spot, ” he says.
