the Universe. Curious about what is up there in space? Take the opportunity – today you can learn more during Astronomy day and night.
– It is a astronomifest with activities over the whole country, ” says lundabon Peter Linde, project manager at the Swedish astronomical society, which initiated the event.
It’s all about lectures, exhibitions, teleskoptittande and much more at more than 40 locations, from Piteå to Malmö.
– We think it is very exciting to watch in the sky and want to convey it to as many people as possible.
One of the more spectacular activities during the day is a paper airplane with a gps-transmitter that is released from a höghöjdsballong more than 35 miles above the north of Värmland. The plane should then be taken care of when it lands on earth. The whole thing is filmed and broadcast live at the Technical museum in Stockholm.
“We want to look not only at space but also to reach up there,” explains Astronomical Youth president Jennifer Andersson.
A different arrangement that stands out is the evening’s planned star observation at the tourist attraction Kill the case in Hammarstrand in Jämtland. It has the organizer, just as in many other places, backed up with indoor activities if it would become cloudy and bad weather.
