The Swedish government will vote for the UN resolution to ban nuclear weapons, the Russian minister for foreign affairs Margot Wallström (S) for the TT.
It is about to vote yes to a UN resolution in the general assembly at the end of the month which aims to initiate negotiations on a ban on nuclear weapons in 2017. It is Austria which, together with a group of states has taken the initiative for the resolution.
— of course We want to vote yes to it. We believe that this as never before is essential, since we still have 16 000 nuclear weapons in the world. The nuclear-weapon states are modernising the rather its nuclear weapons than to work for non-proliferation and disarmament, as it is needed here. It would be remarkable if Sweden would not be able to stand on the side and with the countries that want to highlight and start to work for reduction of nuclear weapons, ” says Margot Wallström.
