500 000 indelta soldiers in the database – Aftonbladet

Society. half A million Swedish indelta soldiers have been identified during more than 30 years. As well as their soldier.

And almost all with Swedish ancestry have a relative in the material.

– An excellent resource for us genealogists and local researchers, ” says the felt släktforskaren Ted Rosvall.

Before conscription was introduced in 1901 Sweden had a system with the indelta soldiers. Each landscape would keep his own regiment and the local farms were given the responsibility to arrange supplies for the soldiers.

Through a comprehensive mapping, there are several years ago a register of soldiers, relatives and over the soldier they had to stay in. The registry has now passed the 500 000 soldiers.

Covers the whole country

Work with the registry was started in 1983 in conjunction with the 350 year jubilee of the Skaraborgs regiment, Skövde. But then it grew and eventually came to cover the whole country. Today there are fifteen local records from Boden in the north to Trelleborg in the south, all created by volunteers.

once A year, transferred the materials to a central computer database, which for technical reasons are placed at Linköping university.

Registry, www.soldatreg.se, is well attended. Every year almost a million searches.

– It is perhaps not surprising. If you have half a million Swedish soldiers and in addition their wives, children and parents, it means that 98 percent of those with Swedish ancestry have at least one relative in the material, ” says Björn Lippold, head of the museum at the museum has Skaraborg, and one of the driving forces behind the project.

Clear whether the six year

In the registry, it is possible for the genealogists to supplement with their own material. And we still have nearly 100 000 soldiers to catalogue.

– We will be able to go in case of maybe five, six years, but there will be gaps, ” says Björn Lippold.

some of the material was lost at the battle of Poltava in 1709, when a large part of the military’s archives disappeared.

And with all the wives, children and parents will take even longer. The registry is also a compilation of almost 50 000 soldiers’.

– But not many remain today. A maximum of 10 per cent, believe Björn Lippold.
