Wahed saved his classmates – Sveriges Radio

“If I hadn’t shoved him away, I think that he had gone into the classroom and killed many students,” says Wahed, who enter ninth grade at the school, the Crown in Trollhättan, sweden.

He tells me that he had SO-lesson, where on Thursday, about a year ago, when there was a knock on the door to the classroom. Wahed went and opened the door, and suddenly he stood eye to eye with a completely dressed in black, with a black mask for the face.

He looked at me and I looked at him. Then I asked, “Who are you?”, says Wahed.

Suddenly pulls the masked man up a long sword and stabs him in the stomach. Wahed manages to push away the offender, and shutting and locking fast the door. He notes that it probably saved both his and his classmates ‘ lives.

“He wanted to beat me again, it was because I pushed him and closed the door and locked it,” he says.

Police denotes skolattacken as a hate crime. The masked man, 21-year-old Anton Lundin Pettersson, had a racist motive. He spared fair-skinned students he met at the school, but attacked dark-skinned people. He killed three people before he himself was killed by the police.

the 16-year-old Wahed, who fled the war in Syria for the security of Sweden, was seriously damaged. To this day he still hurts from time to time.

Why the offender attacked Wahed and killed three others, is a question that haunts Wahed.

” I think all the time why he did so.

What is most important is the loss of the three who died, ” says Wahed. He knew them well, they were like his family.

Even if the grief and the questions are heavy to wear every day, so look Wahed is now moving forward and has decided to study hard and get a good future.

“It’s hard work sometimes, but I have to get good grades and continue my life,” he says.
