Flights. Steeper approaches to airports can reduce the noise to which nearby residents are exposed to, show a KTH-study. By flying in with an angle of a maximum of 3.5 degrees, instead of the normal 3 degrees, can the audio levels be lowered by two decibels, reports the SVT News.
It may not sound much, but it is experienced as a marked difference on the ground.
– If you get a cut of one or two decibels, so if you move the borders on noise maps quite substantially. It can be about the kilometres, ” says Mats Åbom, the director of the Center for sustainable aviation at KTH and professor of acoustics, to SVT.
But a steeper approach does not solve completely the problem of aircraft noise.
– If there should be a difference as to the sharks, then you have to reduce by five to six decibels, ” says Mats Åbom.
Steeper approaches have been tried in London and Frankfurt.
– People have experienced an improvement with these moderate differences.
