the Ammonia has leaked out in a cold room at the Lantmännen plant in Järna. The emergency services have gone in with kemdykare.

– Those who live in the vicinity of the factory should keep the ventilation and the windows closed, ” says Lars-Åke Stevelind, chief operating officer at Södertörn fire department.

It was at 20.42 which deltidsbrandkåren in Järna in Sörmland was alerted on a gasutsläppt in parts of their factory. It turned out to be a pretty advanced emissions whereupon the Södertörn fire department also became engaged.

Accommodation calls

– When deltidskåren get there so does it smell ammonia strongly. In a cold room, it has leaked out of the ammonia in the liquid phase, says Lars-Åke Stevelind.

Emergency services have submitted kemdykare, and then come out with a warning message via radio. Accommodation in the vicinity of the factory are encouraged to keep the ventilation and windows closed.

” It smells very strong when it is very small amounts. But people in general do not know how dangerous it is, ” says Lars-Åke Stevelind.

the Spill is described as relatively small and none worked at the plant when it occurred.

Can give frostbite

No person shall have come to harm. Representatives of the factory and the municipality are in place outside.

– Right now we are on to locate the actual leak. Ammonia is very dangerous, it is both corrosive and you can get frostbite, ” says Stevelind.
