And contrary to what previous research has shown that women receive nicknames just as much as men .
Nickname arising in the immediate circle of family and relatives. Extras name as your partner comes on. The fact that women usually get their nickname in more intimate environments enables researchers previously missed that women as much as men get an additional name.
– The difference in results is due how the material has been collected. When using the sports-based material or downloading materials from the school environment, then one can get a skewed result, says Linnea Gustafsson, PhD in Nordic languages at Halmstad University.
Shutter giving nicknames
Through surveys with more than 200 employees and 22 in-depth interviews Linnea Gustafsson have been able to arrive at different conclusions. Women as well as men get their nickname from childhood and school age, but the environment in which the names occur and the spread they receive differ.
– Men get their nickname at school, leisure or sport. Women get them in more intimate environments and nicknames tend to remain in the environment they were created in, says Gustafsson.
Her study, which only Swedish citizens over 18 years were included, also shows that we largely stop giving each other nicknames when we become adults.

Most intimate nicknames
Nickname in relationships, we tend, however, to give each other even in adulthood.
