Firefighters from six stations fought the whole night against the fire in the ruca premises on Skeppsholmen in Stockholm.
Early in the morning hit the still open the flames up through the building’s roof. At 10 o’clock had the fire been contained, but is not yet under control.
“It looks much better, but we can not exclude the possibility that it has spread to places we don’t know yet,” says Jonas Fröjmark, ledningsförman at ssbf.
At 16 o’clock on onsdagseftermiddagen alerted the police, rescue and ambulance services about a fire on the fourth floor of the Royal the academy’s premises at the Modern museum on Skeppsholmen. According to the ssbf, it was boxes and junk that had begun to burn.
Less than an hour later, the fire extinguished, wrote the police on its website. But then the situation deteriorated and the fire flared up again. During the night, fought a large number of firefighters against the flames.
Not under control
On Thursday were between 30 and 40 people from the emergency services still on site. Early in the morning the news came that the fire had spread from the attic and fourth floor to floor three.
” the Fire is not under control. We work on feet for metres. It is svårjobbat, said ledningsförman Johan Winsnes previous to Aftonbladet.
At 10 o’clock was the vibes from the fire service more positive.
” It looks much better. But we can not exclude the possibility that it has spread to places we do not know yet, so it is not quite under control yet, ” says ledningsförmannen Jonas Fröjmark.
” But soon we can hopefully start to phase out the operation.
Took out the smoke
the Fire was svårbekämpad. Early yesterday evening forced the emergency services to take out the smoke out of the building because of the heavy smoke and rasrisken.
– the Smoke and the heat made it very difficult to penetrate. In addition, it was an aggravating factor that the building is from the 1700′s and has been built on to several times. It could not just look at a drawing to see how it looks. We took it piece by piece.
During Wednesday evening blew ssbf hole in the building’s roof.
– It is a technique we use to get rid of brandgaserna in the attic and on the second floor, ” says Johan Winsnes.
Smoke felt the way
Smoke from fires spread during the evening and night over large parts of the capital.
– The feels by a long shot, but it’s not dangerous, ” says Johan Winsnes.
In a so called VMA (Important message to the public), called on all who are in the area to go indoors and close all doors, windows and ventilation. On torsdagseftermiddagen lifted the warning.
Smoke can still be felt in the area. But it’s just the smell and nothing dangerous, ” says Jonas Fröjmark.
During the onsdagsftermiddagen sent three ambulances to the scene of the fire.
– One person received medical care on the spot but didn’t need to be brought to the hospital. In general, there are no reports of injuries, ” says Fröjmark.
Started in the studio
ruca, property manager Peter Jansson was during the night inside on the ground floor of the building in order to make a first assessment of the damage.
– There is a lot of damage, it is fire damage, but right now it is actually the most water damage.
the Machines have been destroyed and pretty much paper since we are concerned with the graphics, but it does not seem to be so many works of art destroyed, but rather things that should be works of art, ” he says.
the Fire should have started in a studio, where there were few students. A teacher sounded the alarm to Peter Jansson, who found the fire by following the smell.
” I went into the room, but it was so smoke-filled, so I saw nothing and heard no when I called. Then I ran and fetched a fire extinguisher, but when I came back it was too hot so then I looked to get people from the rest of the building, ” he says.
the Venue is 1 500 square meters large and are not expected to be able to be used until about half a year up to one year.
“It is very sad, we have to hurt on the premises right now and we now have a large building that we can’t use,” he says.
