Sweden The parties must now by law to report openly where they get their money from, but the business organization Institute against bribery does not think the law goes far enough.

For the second year in a row, all the parties in parliament and the European Parliament recognize the contributions they receive from private individuals, other organizations within the party, companies and organizations to Kammarkollegiet. The Social Democrats have received just under 22 million, and the Sweden Democrats a little more than 19.5 million in grants. The Liberals are the only party that received an anonymous contribution – $ 100, which they declined.

Succession to the Social Democrats

The law, which will prevent bribery, says that all contributions are higher than 22 200 crowns must be reported by name. The Left Party and the Green Party have figured that they had received contributions from individuals to large sums and the Social Democrats have received nearly a million in the form of an inheritance. The Centre Party and the Conservatives did not receive private contributions.

More parties have other major revenue sources, such as the Social Democrats that draws over 36 million in ticket sales or the Centre Party who earn 76 million in proceeds from selling newspapers they owned .

Want more transparency

Helena Sundén is the Secretary General of the Institute against bribery and hope for more open reporting of contributions when the law is now to be reviewed.

We do not know exactly how well it works because the law is so new, but you can think about is whether it is sufficiently transparent since it is still possible to make contributions anonymously. Corruption is the biggest enemy of transparency, she said.

TT: Should there be any possibility for individuals to make anonymous contributions in case you want to support his party, although it would mean a social stigma?

Then the question is always: is it a private individual or representative to another interest.

Act be reviewed

After criticism from the Council of Europe Group against corruption was introduced in 2014 a law where the person receiving anonymous contributions could lose their state aid. Furthermore, all grants of over 22,200 crowns recorded by name. The law, however, a gap, because only national organizations were forbidden to receive covert support. The parties can continue to bring in anonymous contributions through local organizations. Right now a committee of law.
