“Rating issue is more politics than school policy” – Göteborgs-Posten

"Rating issue is more politics than school policy" – Göteborgs-Posten

When the former combatants Jan Björklund and Gustav Fridolin fall into each other’s arms in the ratings issue is more about crass politics than about school policies. And it’s beautiful.

Compromise is often slandered concepts. Both left- and rightward of the political spectrum seen compromises betrayal. In fact, the compromise is a beautiful part of the policy crafts. From different points of give and take and will eventually arrive at a decision that both sides can agree.

During the election campaign, Jan Björklund (Liberal) and Gustav Fridolin (MP) main enemies in the ratings issue. The Alliance has wanted grades from year four, and the red-green, and above all, MP, has resisted. That question got so much emphasis is about the main blocks are otherwise reasonably agree on school policy.

Now they have agreed on a limited experimentation with ratings fourth grade. When Björklund and Fridolin with Lena Hallengren (S) introduced the draft was the watchword stability. They agreed that the school’s activities prejudiced by new decisions are taken and torn up, depending on who is in power. There is also a description that is shared by teachers’ unions. Now it will then be calmer on school grounds.

But do not let FP their voters wanting previous ratings? And will not the MP’s members to rage? The beauty of this Kråksången is that both sides will come right out well. Bjorklund gets, albeit to a limited extent, previous grades and Fridolin can argue that the government’s education policy is based on research. The trial will be assessed before it is put into full scale, or deleted from the agenda.

As one of the stumbling blocks within the school policy has been rolled away from the political agenda. Rate The question is unlikely to be a trätoämne the next five years. The alternative would have been to make up in parliament. Sweden Democrats were early demands for ratings fourth grade, but has recently come up with conflicting answers.

Yesterday’s settlement eliminates the SD’s influence in the matter. The government will not risk another stinging defeat in parliament and the Alliance will not have to lean towards an uncertain support.

In addition to the experiment with earlier grades, knowledge tests in math and Swedish done in one to assess whether early intervention is needed and national tests in SO and NO in the sixth grade to become volunteers to relieve teachers’ administrative burden. It is extremely welcome. Can threatening knowledge gaps identified and addressed in a timely manner is very much gained.

It is much more important than having rating at a given time. Now it only applies to policies to ensure that resources are available for these early actions.
