ministerial visit, Beatrice Ask information about policing in Norrköping working against everyday crimes. Topics discussed included organized crime and drug problems in the community.
– The visit has been very interesting. Hageby often painted as a problem area, but after talking with police officers who are active in the area has given me a different picture. The area boasts many young people and many adults without jobs. It’s a jobs issue, we must take the high unemployment seriously. Beatrice Ask also want to invest in more resources to the police, while she wants a clampdown on organized crime.– We will push back against organized crime. Petter Asp, the last in August to put a proposal on how we can strengthen penalties, including for violent crimes and serious drug offenses. We’ll see what the proposal contains. The police must also work more preventative, it will not be easy to operate organized crime in Sweden, says Beatrice Ask.
Beatrice Ask also want to remove the penalty relief for 18-21 year olds:– We will submit a proposal to abolish the penal youth discount. It is time for young adults to take responsibility for their actions, says Beatrice Ask.
Nicklas Pettersson, outside foreman at the youth section at police in Norrköping, believes that the police have to start prioritizing youth activities. – The biggest problem we see today in Norrköping is that crime is creeping down through the ages. More and more crime occurs in schools where there are such threats, extortion and many young people begin to cultivate drugs. Youth crime and drug problems are two areas that it must be more focus and resources on. According to Nicklas Pettersson there is no room for the police to deal with these issues. – We have a very high working pressure and it becomes difficult for us to make priorities. We do not necessarily need more police officers, but we need more time to his duties. It’s frustrating not being able to reach out properly because of work pressure. You have to put more focus on youth activities in order to prevent this type of crime, says Nicklas Pettersson.
