Smoke from fires may have spread to Nikkaluokta – Swedish Radio

Smoke from fires may have spread to Nikkaluokta – Swedish Radio

– As high as in Nikkaluokta have known people smoke, even though the emergency has not heard anything about that would burn in the area, says Therese Fogman, meteorologist at SMHI.

Even in Storuman reports of fire smoke, which can come from Västmanland. Lars-Erik Sundqvist, director of preparedness for emergency services in Storuman, believes that it is unbelievable the smoke coming from the great fire of Västmanland.

– It is called inversion, heat causes the smoke and soot can travel long distances, says Sundqvist to P4 Norrbotten.

It blows right now very little in the fire area, which meant that the smell of smoke spread jiggle in all directions. Tomorrow, local gusts occur with rain and thunder, and rainfall is expected in Västmanland.
– Yes, it’s probable. Then it’s pretty scattered rain showers, so have been unlucky miss the rain the fire completely. But if thunder is involved so it’s not particularly welcome, says Fogman.
Where are you getting if you’re in the area and want to avoid the smoke?

– South of Lake Mälaren, I have not heard about that much trouble, so towards Mälaren, Vänern or perhaps the West Coast, says Therese Fogman at SMHI.
