the city planning office in Gothenburg has developed the entire city of Göteborg in the video game Minecraft.
"With a Minecraft-launch, we hope in the first step to get young people curious and interested in urban development," says Agneta Hammer, director of city planning in the City of Gothenburg, in a press release.
Gothenburg’s nine districts are now available to download on the city’s website. Everything is based on real geographical data, both as regards the houses, roads, trees and lighting. The players can go and fly through the different districts of the city.
"ultimately, we see Minecraft as an arena where we work together with schools and special groups in connection with the early stages of planning of an area in order to get multiple perspectives on urban planning", says Agneta Hammar.
