The hundred best detectives / 3 – Today’s News

May Sjowall and Per Wahlöö
“The man on the balcony”
Norstedts 1967 Piratförlaget 2012
A hot and dusty summer in Stockholm in the sixties, and some killer little girls in the parks. The city is boiling with fear and rage, and the police must not only try to find the killer but also stop citizens from their own vagaries of how children should be protected. At the same time committed a series of muggings, perhaps, but not at all certain, associated with girls’ murders. Of course you can discuss which of Sjöwall and Wahlöös Dick, is the very best, but this is my favorite: a nasty good detective plot, wonderful Stockholm Environments, and a Kollberg that becomes so angry that he can not talk.
