Several arrested in horse meat tangle – Västerbotten Courier

Two years after the big meat scandal, where horse meat resold in the European food chain as beef, has 26 people have been arrested. They are suspected of involvement in an organized criminal network that traded with illegal horse meat.

According to the French authorities were manipulated between 2010 and 2013 health documents for 4700 sick horses then slaughtered and resold so that they eventually ended up at was male-plate beef. Mislabelled meat ended up including the Swedish meatballs.

Police and judicial authorities from France, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK took part in the operation.

Earlier this year, was sentenced manager for a Dutch meat wholesaler to 2.5 years in prison for selling horse meat as beef. Even a British abattoir owners and slaughterhouse manager has been convicted for his involvement in horse meat scandal, where the penalty was a fine and imprisonment for four months.
