Want tighten requirements for nursing homes

The state should require municipalities to older people’s needs and habits – not the staff’s schedules – to guide staffing in nursing homes, writes National Board and five pensioner organizations in Dagens Nyheter’s opinion page.
The requirement put forward the same day as the National Board presents its proposal for new rules for the elderly. In it clear that it is the elderly habits and needs that govern such as when they get up in the morning to bed for the night.
The proposal is now left to the Government for decision. This also proposed that there must be personnel “without delay can help anyone who has fallen out of bed and see a dementia that is heading out the front door.” National Board would also require that nursing homes will have staff available at night.
“In addition, the staff should have basic skills in caring for the elderly and access to documents and supervision,” writes among others, the National Board General Lars-Erik Holm debate article.
“We think this is about basic rules for the care of the elderly should be able to meet the needs of older people,” he writes, together with representatives of the five pensioners’ organizations.
They point out that Sweden Municipalities and Regions (SKL) has been a notable opponent of the rule changes
