Drug-related mental health services is increasing among young people – Västerbotten Courier

The number of young people who receive inpatient care for mental disorder linked to use of cannabis, or a combination of drugs, has more than doubled since 2004, writes Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet and refer to figures from the National Board.

In 2013, nursed 1869 young people aged 15-24 for mental disorder caused by the type of drug use, compared with 871 persons in 2004.

– Virtually all drugs increases the sensitivity to insjunka in a psychotic episode. I think we have a tendency to underestimate the importance of drug use when talking about the young and poor mental health, says Göran Rydén, Managing Director for Northern Stockholm Psychiatry, told SvD.
