Torrential rains help thirsty Gotland – Aftonbladet

Weather. the last day’s rainfall is timely for Gotland. The land on the island is very dry, but after the downpour increased groundwater levels slightly, according to SMHI.

Did you get his feet wet yesterday? As long as you do not live in the Visby neighborhood you can not complain.

SMHI measuring station at the Visby airport measured a full 60 millimeters of precipitation over the past days.

– it is a lot, but it was sucked up soon because it is so dry, says René Capell, on-call hydrologist at SMHI.

the Institute has previously gone issue warnings for low groundwater levels on the island. After yesterday’s rainfall situation is somewhat better.

– According to our models fill rate above normal now, but it is still low because the normal summer is that it is low groundwater says René Capell.

the degree of filling, the term SMHI use when measuring groundwater, are now between 40 and 50 percent on the island.

– it is normal to dry in the summer. This is very seasonal, says René Capell.

Although Oland did much rainfall yesterday. Northern Öland measured 47 millimeters.

But anyone who is concerned about how much water there is in the well had better be hoping for more rain.

– in the longer term, it would take more rain for it to fill, says René Capell.
