Last year, examined over 160 000 asylum in Sweden. Then the police in Region South is also a record number of notifications of suspected human smuggling, over 100 pieces.
Since November when border controls were introduced and then in January when the ID checks introduced, the number of asylum seekers has fallen sharply. Despite this, the number of reported cases of suspected human smuggling remains high. So far this year, police have registered over 60 entries. Border controls makes the police discovers more. The most common is that the cases detected among motorists who drive across the Oresund Bridge
– It is the most common, says Michael Mattsson, head of border police in the South Region.
But border control is not comprehensive, either by car traffic or the trains running across the Oresund Bridge.
– We have partial border control, which means that we do not have 100 percent control of all trains who go over. There is a distinct possibility that you can get ashore in Sweden that way, says Michael Mattsson.
It is also more people than previously rejected by police right at the border, because they are not entitled to stay in Sweden – and at the same time do not want to seek asylum here. According to Michael Mattsson has over 500 such rejections made in years.
In the spring are also more and more people discovered when the foot has tried to get into Sweden across the Oresund Bridge. Over 50 people have been discovered, but so far known only to a handful who have managed to go all the way. Michael Mattsson believe that more people will attempt the dangerous journey in the summer.
– Well we have found a four to five pieces that have managed all the way, but maybe it’s more that we do not know. Obviously, it is a precarious way to get through, he says.
