One in four of all asylum applications in the EU was made in Sweden during the autumn of 2015. But it’s not anymore.
In January, were just one of twenty asylum here, according to the EU statistical office Eurostat and the Immigration Service.
Sweden’s share of those who applied for asylum in the EU has remained at around ten to 15 percent every year since the early 2000s. If the decline continues, it means a new trend for the Swedish refugee, writes Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
Changes in Sweden’s migration policy and restrictions on family reunification pointed out as reasons behind the decrease. While several European countries have introduced border controls have played a role.
A similar reduction occurred in the beginning of last year. But when it became warmer weather and less dangerous to travel across the Mediterranean as had the number at the end of the year doubled.
