The number of poultry is increasing in Sweden and Örebro – Sveriges Radio

But the statistics are easily influenced because the farms are relatively few, and the hens number on each farm, explains Anders Grönvall, who are officers of the Agriculture Department.

– The large herds become larger so a company can of course affect quite a lot, especially in the counties where they are not so common, he says.

ten years ago there were 176 000 chickens in Örebro, and now there are 278 000 . throughout the country there are seven and a half million chickens, compared to five million ten years ago.

Anders Grönvall on Agriculture says the average is 2600 hens per crew, but many farms are much bigger than that. Among those with more than a thousand chickens, the average is somewhere in the 30,000 hens per crew. The farms are not growing, but larger.

Large operation encouraged by the Packers, says Karolina Schneider, who has 12 000 claims chickens on his farm in Fjugesta.

– Those conventional hens should have 40,000 for the Packers will find it interesting to get there and get eggs, simply. Requirements do not have the same demands on themselves, but we’ll have a little less chicken, explains Caroline.

And now it’s Easter time. Can you tell?

– Yes, we have a tough job in our little äggbod to carry out eggs to all who want to Easter celebrations.

How do you do to get a warehouse for Easter?

– the hens do not care what season it is, but we have so much egg so that it is to our customers around here. But we can not send away quite as much to our packing facility in Dalarna as we usually do, says Karolina Schneider at Berga farm in Fjugesta.
