The Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas have missed a self-imposed deadline for a peace agreement aimed at ending the over 50 years of armed conflict, which is estimated to have claimed over 200 000 lives.
the parties have reached several important agreements, but need more time to hammer out the final details. They have previously made it clear that the signing on Wednesday, as the self-imposed deadline, would not be realistic.
– We will give our utmost to get a final agreement in place says government negotiators Humberto de la Calle.
Negotiations have been held in the Cuban capital of Havana since 2012. the unrest has
almost completely ceased. The smaller rebel group the National Liberation Army has continued with the attacks, but has begun negotiations with the government to join the talks.
