Opening for whitefish fishery in Vättern – Swedish Radio

Freshwater fish Arenas Central Association has found a solution to just be able to take up a passing whitefish. Thus it is soon possible to start selling fish from the lake and Lake Vänern again.

Recently, in practice it has been sold peak of whitefish from our two large lakes Vänern and lake because the person selling the fish had to be able to show that dioxin levels are not above the EU limit, which is very difficult as individual fisherman.

But now the Swedish freshwater fish arenas Central Association started a self-control, so that fishermen who are in the program all the time to know what fish are in the lake that have sufficiently low toxicity levels.

– The idea is that we regularly take samples of the fish. We see, for example, if there are small fish that is below the limit, or if it is currently fishing in northern Lake Vänern, says Mats Ingemarsson who is chairman of the Association.

The cost of the individual fishery entrepreneurs are approximately 15,000 dollars to be involved in the program. The first samples are already posted on analyzing and assessing the chances that big sales soon takes off.

– I am convinced that it will be possible to buy smoked Vättersik in Hjo for the summer, says Mats Ingemarsson.
