Ebola outbreak increases malaria death – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Additional least 11 000 people have died in three countries as a result of malaria attacks, new research shows.

In addition to the nearly 4000 died due to insect nets – a simple measure to protect themselves against the malaria-carrying mosquitoes – could not be delivered.

Because the nursing staff had to

prioritize Ebola cases, it has resulted in the 5600 malaria deaths in Guinea, 3900 in Sierra Leone and 1500 in Liberia, according to the research team led by Pat Walker at Imperial College in London.

– Our calculations show the true magnitude as Ebola outbreak has brought with it, he said.
