No link between Ikea victims and killers – Göteborgs-Posten

There is no link between the two suspects for knife murders in Västerås and the victims, police said at a news conference. The conclusion is that the attack was not politically motivated.

– At the moment there is nothing to suggest that there is any connection between the suspects and the victims, said the vice Chief prosecutor Eva Moren at the press conference just after lunch.

– There are no political overtones in the investigation, added the police commanding director Per Agren.

At present there are no signs that anyone other than the two arrested men should be involved in the attack, according to Moren.

She confirmed that the weapon used in the attack was a knife, and the police found the suspected murder weapon. She does not want to go into whether it is more than a knife used.

– Something more can not be said about how it has gone about it.

Emphasizes the Asylum accommodations

The two people suspected of the murder – a 23 year old, on reasonable suspicion, and a 35 year old suspected on probable cause – come from Eritrea and lived in an asylum accommodation in Arboga. Police said that one should strengthen surveillance around the refugee camps around the country because there may be a threat against them.

– There is reason to take a more holistic approach and taking security-building measures for all who are in Sweden, says Per Agren to TT after the press conference.

Operated again

It was at 13 o’clock on Monday that the knife attack took place inside at Ikea. Two people – a 55 year old woman and her 28-year-old son – living in a village outside Skellefteå – died shortly after the attack.

On the site there were also the suspected 35-year-old, severely injured. The man still nursed Monday with life-threatening injuries and has not been interrogated. He underwent surgery on Monday and a new operation began just before lunch today, said the hospital’s press service.

The police would not currently go into how 35-year-old injured.

– I know we are well, but it is a task that we must sort out a little better before we go out with it, said police commanding director Per Agren said.

deny the charges

The 23-åringe suspects were arrested in connection with that he ran from the IKEA store in Vasteras after the knife attack. In the interview after he was arrested he denied the charges.

Lawyer Maria Wilhelmsson met on Tuesday morning his client, who continued claiming his innocence.

– He has been there but have not done anything, says Maria Wilhelmsson told TT, adding:

– It may suffice that you are at the wrong place at the wrong time you can be reasonably suspected. It’s very low standard of proof for that one should be reasonably suspected, she says.

Examines Monitoring movies

The police have downloaded images from the surveillance cameras that shows incident and are working to analyze the material. During Monday afternoon were sought through the store with the dog.

– When we evacuate a local, we must ensure that there is someone there, that there are things thrown somewhere. There is a search work which is not completely ready yet. It is possible that we anträffar things that might be interesting for us, says Per Agren.

The alleged perpetrators, who are not known to police for previous crimes, knew each other, according to data Aftonbladet.
