The Gathering Storm Svea is expected to cause major problems in large parts of southern Sweden. Train and ferry services have been canceled and extensive damage is feared.

A class 2 warning has been issued for Västra Götaland, Halland, Östergötland, parts of California, Öland and Gotland. But even for the rest of southern Sweden up to Örebro and Stockholm County warned of strong gusts.

It’s a serious situation, says Eva Strandberg, meteorologist at SMHI.

The Finnish Transport Agency have set train service on Bohusbanan between Uddevalla and Strömstad and between Borås and Varberg on Friday morning. Several small train routes, mostly in eastern Småland, is also turned off. Even the ferry service on the Skagerrak and Gotland affected.

Eon and Vattenfall has raised its preparedness in the affected areas ahead of possible disturbances on the grid.

We have increased staffing in the operations center, and has a large number of people on alert, as technicians, assemblers, loaders and forestry technician, says Mikael Petrovic Wågmark, Nordic Head of Press for Vattenfall.

Class 2 warning means that trees can be broken by the wind, tiles can go away and that there may be power outages. Important social functions can also be affected.
