Needle exchange should be introduced across the country to reduce the risk of drug users infected with the liver disease hepatitis C, writes the Public Health Agency in a new report.
The method involves that addicts have access to clean injecting equipment, but also counseling, testing and vaccination.
– We need to protect the addict’s health. There is no rhyme or reason to allow them to run a big risk of serious disease, says Johan Carlson, Director General of the Public Health
Agency, to SVT. 
Today, needle exchange introduced in six municipalities, including Stockholm and Malmö. In Gothenburg, politicians have so far said no.
