Half of the country’s municipalities have less than 40 percent of women in municipal government – the municipality’s most powerful body in which decisions such as schools and social services is determined. It shows a review that SVT News made.
In over 100 of the 290 municipalities, only a third or even less of the directors are women. Four municipalities have only one woman and the Skåne municipality Perstorp has not one.
123 municipalities have between 40 and 60 percent of women, what is required in practice to count as equal. In just over 16 percent of the municipalities is half or more than half of them women.
